Today we premiere some screwface drum & bass from DJ Koncept X David Boomah via Vinyl Combat. The pair conjure a menacing trip through chunky 170 rhythms and punishing sub-lines – a dark and forgiving take on classic dub sounds.

Vinyl Combat‘s 22nd release sees the debut collaboration between producer DJ Koncept and lyricist David Boomah. This release is a tip of the hat to definitive dub sounds while marrying soulful vocals and instrumentation with modern drum & bass power through slamming breakbeats and sinister synth lines.

The label proudly presents a lyricist who needs little introduction as David Boomah is widely regarded as one of the most original, respected lyricists in the game. The seminal artist has become a byword for stunning vocals, ever since bursting onto the UK jungle scene alongside Shy FX with the 1995 classic ‘Who Run Tings’.

We premiere ‘Run Choon’ which arrives as a murky club-ready roller on the flip of the dub anthem ‘Can’t Stop Me’. The B-side focuses on the darker corners of the club, leaning into uncompromising drum rhythms that remain complex yet uncompromisingly heavyweight. David Boomah drops some hype vocals over the sinister pads in the intro, progressing into a drop with snappy drums and heavy bass. The deep sub and delays / FX give this one a dub feel.
