The Berlin nightclub Salon zur Wilden Renate, better known as Wilde Renate, has announced that it would close permanently at the end of 2025 after 18 years.
In a statement from the club, they said “The reason for this is the expiry of the lease agreement with the notorious property investor Gijora Padovicz”, They also followed by saying “Renate’s displacement is not an isolated case.”
The loss of Renate is a devastating blow to Berlin’s club scene, which was a hub of culture, diversity, and free expression. Its intricate and quirky layout, combined with its high-quality booking policy, which served up high-end house and techno, made it a truly unique space in the heart of the city.
“Despite intensive efforts to find an extension to the contract or alternative solutions, the club operators have to face the fact that Renate will no longer be able to continue in its current form.” They said in a statement.
The future of sister club M01, which recently hosted an all-Irish lineup, remains unknown. The same is true for club ELSE, which operates in the same block as Renate.
