The initiative, led by the city’s new night-time economy advisor Ray O’Donoghue, will see designated welfare areas set up in Dublin city centre by the end of the year, providing support for and welfare for late-night revellers. The move is part of broader efforts to enhance Dublin’s after-hours landscape.
Dublin is planning to implement semi-permanent welfare zones by the end of the year, providing a safe space for revellers seeking assistance during nights out. The initiative is brought to Dublin by the city’s new nighttime economy advisor Ray O’Donoghue.
These designated areas, which were tested during Culture Night, are intended to provide a safe environment for those who may have consumed too much alcohol or other substances or just having a bad night. The zones will be staffed with medics, security, and welfare officers to ensure that people can seek assistance as needed.
Mr O’Donoghue told Newstalk “It’s something that we’re having conversations around. The idea would be to potentially look at a calendar of events throughout the year, so it may not be 50 weekends of the year, but maybe 10 or 20 weekends, or something along those lines.”
