One of Dublin’s oldest theatres, the Ambassador, has reopened with a rumoured 900-capacity layout. Dating back to 1764, it has hosted many famous acts, including Vitalic and 2 Many DJs, and was also Dublin’s longest-running cinema.

The landmark building has hosted a variety of exhibitions but has remained largely closed since the COVID-19 pandemic, with only a few comedy shows taking place. However, it has music performances scheduled for the coming months, including acts like Evan Dando, An Evening with Ron Sexsmith, and Playback: Stop Making Sense. Gigs are listed on Ticketmaster through June 2025, indicating a promising lineup.

While dance music events may still be a bit far off, the venue is in its early stages, having just reopened a few weeks ago. Its initial offerings suggest a gradual return to a full schedule of performances.

Given its history of hosting diverse gigs, the venue has the potential to attract dance music shows in the future, much like Vicar Street, which has welcomed artists such as Barry Can’t Swim and Overmono. With its scale and reputation, the Ambassador Theatre could become a key player in Dublin’s music scene once again.
