Irish producer ELLLL is set to release her debut album, Earth Rotation, via BRUK. The 13-track album delves deep into a rich tapestry of sound, constructed around dusty textures, intricate sample selections, and low-slung grooves.
Few artists from Ireland have a discography like Ellen King, aka ELLLL. The Cork native, now based in Berlin, is known for her experimental, off-kilter techno and bass that defies easy categorisation. With her debut album, Earth Rotation, she takes this to new heights.
It’s not music made for clubs, and in fact, it’s far from it. It’s raw, chaotic, polished, and cohesive all at the same time. ELLLL pushes sonic boundaries, blending the spirit of trip-hop and jungle while avoiding their familiar rhythms. Earth Rotation is a bold statement, carving a unique space for ELLLL in the left-field techno scene.
Earth Rotation doesn’t have a clear narrative, but its experimental sound suggests environmental themes. ELLLL relishes the uncomfortable pockets of rhythm, challenging the listener to pause and reassess what they know about rhythmic structures, groove, and feel. The album exists in a raw, tactile space where disjointed micro-loops and off-kilter samples create an otherworldly atmosphere—somewhat reminiscent of J Dilla, but filtered through Squarepusher and spat out in the style of Boards of Canada. It sounds like everything previously, but then again, not at all.
This is a statement album and a welcome return of ELLLL to our sound systems.
