Irish transport goes late this December as many operators offer late-night services. Iarnród Éireann, Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, Luas, and more provide late-night routes during the festive period.
Transport For Ireland will be hosting operation open city 2023 throughout the month of December as the they attempt to make Ireland more accessible via public transport this festive season. Late-night services will avail to accomadte suprplus shopping, socialising and working hours.
The upcoming holiday schedules for Dublin Bus, Go Ahead, Luas, and Irish Rail have been announced. In order to return home safely this Christmas, this is all the information you need.
Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead
- Christmas Eve: Services finish at 9pm
- Christmas Day: No services
- St Stephen’s Day: Sunday Service, commencing at approximately 9am
- December 27 to 29: Saturday service, including Nitelinks
- December 30: Regular service
- New Year’s Eve: Sunday timetable with regular night services
- New Year’s Day: Sunday service
- January 2: Regular services resume
Dublin Bus also provides 24-hour service on the ten routes listed below, seven days a week:
- 15: From Clongriffin towards Ballycullen Road
- 39a: From UCD Belfield towards Ongar
- 41: From Lower Abbey Street towards Swords Manor
- C1/C2: From Adamstown Station towards Sandymount
- C5/C6: From Maynooth towards Ringsend Road
- G1: From Spencer Dock towards Red Cow Luas
- G2: From Spencer Dock towards Liffey Valley Shopping Centre
- N4: From Point Village towards Blanchardstown Shopping Centre
Every Friday and Saturday night between midnight and 4 a.m., twelve Nitelink bus routes depart from Dublin city centre to suburbs throughout Dublin:
- 7n: From D’Olier Street towards Shankill
- 29n: From D’Olier Street towards Baldoyle Road
- 31n: D’Olier Street to Howth
- 33n: Westmoreland Street towards Balbriggan
- 42n: From D’Olier Street towards Portmarnock
- 46n: From D’Olier Street towards Dundrum
- 49n: From D’Olier Street to Tallaght (Kilnamanagh)
- 69n: From Aston Quay towards Saggart
- 70n: From Westmoreland Street towards Tyrrelstown
- 77n: From D’Olier Street towards Tallaght (Westbrook Estate)
- 84n: D’Olier Street towards Greystones
- 88n: Westmoreland Street towards Ashbourne
Luas
On certain nights over Christmas, night Luas trams will run on both the Red and Green Lines until the early hours of the morning.
- Night Luas Red Line Westbound from The Point to Tallaght will run at 1am, 2am and 3am
- Red Line Night Luas Services Westbound from The Point to Saggart will run at 1.30am and 2.30am
- The Red Line Night Luas Services Eastbound from Tallaght to The Point will run at 1am and 2am
- Red Line Night Luas Services Eastbound from Saggart to The Point will run at 12.30am and 1.30am
- Green Line Night Luas Services Northbound from Brides Glen to Broombridge will run at 12.20am and 2.50am
- Green Line Night Luas Services Southbound from Broombridge to Brides Glen will run every 30 mins from 12.36am to 3.06am
Dart and Irish Rail
A revised schedule will be in effect from December 24 to January 1, with timetable changes from December 24 to January 1. Customers on all routes are advised to check schedules before departing, and to book Intercity travel in advance during peak periods. There are no train services (Intercity, DART, or Commuter) on Christmas or St Stephen’s Day.
Routes operating include: Pearse to Howth (all stations); Connolly to Greystones (all stations); Pearse to Dundalk, serving Tara Street, Connolly, and all stations from Howth Junction to Dundalk; Pearse to Maynooth (all stations); Pearse to Kildare, serving Tara Street, Connolly, Drumcondra and all stations from ParkWest to Kildare.
