Bad day to be a pint. The price of draught pints, including Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, and Hophouse 13, is set to rise starting February 3, Diageo has announced.

For pub-goers, this means pint prices could climb above €6 in many locations, with Dubliners potentially paying over €7 per pint. If current trends in pub pricing continue, there’s a growing concern that Dubliners may soon be priced out of their local pubs altogether.

The change will see prices rise by six cents per pint, excluding VAT, with Guinness 0.0 experiencing an even sharper increase of nine cents per pint. This is the fourth price rise in just two years, putting a further burden on a sector already dealing with the aftermath of the pandemic and current economic difficulties.

A Diageo spokesperson attributed the decision to rising operational costs, saying:
“Like many businesses, we continue to face increased costs across our Irish operations. In an effort to offset these costs and to maintain a sustainable business in Ireland, we have advised our on-trade customers that there will be an increase to the list prices on our full draught product range.”
