A new women-led radio platform, Radio Starr, is set to make its debut in Belfast next month, founded by the team behind the city’s long-standing independent record store, Starr Records.

Launching on November 6th as part of the Sound of Belfast Festival at The Oh Yeah Music Centre, the station aims to celebrate and amplify the city’s music scene while upholding Belfast’s status as a UNESCO City of Music.

Founded by Sinéad Green and Jeff Doherty, Radio Starr promises to deliver programming that reflects diversity and inclusivity at its core. The station has committed to dedicating over 50% of its airtime to women, non-binary, and underrepresented artists, ensuring that their voices are embedded in the foundation of its output.

Beyond music, the station’s year-round schedule will span live sessions, interviews, bilingual programming, cultural discussions, and archival deep-dives, offering a platform that merges sound with storytelling. Visual elements and community-driven collaborations are also set to play a central role.

Radio Starr’s debut broadcast coincides with the opening of the Sound of Belfast Festival, which runs from November 6th to 16th, spotlighting the city’s musical heritage through live events, showcases, and workshops.
