Dublin’s dance music community will come together this November for High Scully, a fundraising night celebrating the life and legacy of Hugh Scully, the DJ, promoter and broadcaster whose influence ran through the city’s club culture across the 1990s and 2000s.
For anyone who came up on Dublin’s club circuit during that era, Scully was a familiar presence. From The Kitchen and The Pod to Spirit and festival stages around Ireland, his work behind the decks and behind the scenes helped shape the city’s house music community.
A resident at The Kitchen’s celebrated Blue night alongside Shay Hannon, Scully was part of a generation of DJs who helped establish house music as a defining force in Dublin nightlife. His career also took in broadcasting on Power FM and Spin, music promotion, youth marketing and work with Red Bull Music Academy.
Scully continued to build connections across the music industry as a co-founder of Dublin Vinyl and The Record Hub, carrying his enthusiasm for records and the people who make, release and play them into new ventures.
He died in May 2025 following a battle with cancer, leaving behind a wide network of friends and collaborators. The November gathering is being organised by friends and fellow Dublin club culture affiliates, including Donagh Molloy, who said the fundraiser was a way to give back to the hospice that cared for Scully in his final days.
The lineup brings together a cross-section of Irish music, broadcasting and club culture: Arveene, Aidan Kelly, Billy Scurry, Dave Davin, Donal Dineen, Kelly-Anne Byrne, Nialler9, Marcus O’Laoire, Muggy, P. Disconaut, Sally Cinnamon and Shay Hannon.
