Roger Doyle, widely regarded as one of the pioneering electronic composers in Ireland, will perform a rare live show at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on June 21st.
Presented by All City Records and curated as part of the AllChival archival series, the event will shine a spotlight on Operating Theatre, Doyle’s cult electronic performance project from the 1980s. The show features live electronics, archive visuals, and theatrical elements, revisiting the experimental energy of a project that blurred the lines between music, performance art, and theatre.
Best known for pushing boundaries in Irish music since the 1970s, Doyle’s work with Operating Theatre, alongside actress and collaborator Olwen Fouéré, carved out a singular niche in European experimental music. Fusing vintage drum machines, analogue synths, spoken word, and performance art, their recordings sounded alien in an Ireland dominated by rock and traditional forms.
This is one of Doyle’s first live performances focusing on the Operating Theatre repertoire in decades, and it coincides with the reissue of Spring Is Coming With A Strawberry In The Mouth on All City’s AllChival label.
