Smirnoff Sound Nation has announced the launch of The Residency, a new nationwide DJ competition, created in partnership with Electric Picnic, to give emerging Irish talent the chance to play at Ireland’s biggest music festival.

The initiative is open to DJs aged 25 and over, based in Ireland, with one winner securing a spot on the line-up at Electric Picnic’s Smirnoff Stage, which has previously hosted artists such as The Blessed Madonna and Gorgon City.

The competition is part of Smirnoff Sound Nation, the brand’s ongoing music platform that aims to broaden access to live music and support emerging talent across Ireland.

The Smirnoff Stage has been a fixture in recent years of Electric Picnic’s electronic music offering, bringing together large-scale dance music programming with accessibility-led initiatives to create a more inclusive festival experience. Previous editions have included wheelchair-accessible viewing areas, sign language interpretation, haptic technology and braille menus, as well as a crowd-focused stage design that brings artists and audiences into close proximity.

“Ireland has always had an incredible musical heartbeat, and The Residency is our way of turning up the volume. Giving DJs from different backgrounds the chance to be discovered and celebrated,” says David Heaney, Head of Marketing Spirits Ireland at Smirnoff.

“We believe the best parties, and the best stages, happen when you bring together different sounds, stories and people. That’s what Smirnoff Sound Nation is all about, and that’s exactly what The Residency will be.”

Applications are now open here.

Following the submission period, Four Four Magazine will select three finalists. Each finalist will then curate a playlist showcasing their sound and musical influences.

The winner will be determined through a public vote, with listeners invited to explore the playlists and support their chosen artist.

Applications open on Friday, 5 June 2026, with entries closing on Sunday, 21 June 2026 at 23:59. Public voting will then take place, with the winner decided by Monday, 3 August 2026 at 23:59.
