The Complex will close following the failure of the Government and Dublin City Council to secure a viable solution for the Dublin-based venue.
Despite prolonged engagement and repeated assurances from public bodies, no workable resolution was delivered. The closure of The Complex highlights significant shortcomings in cultural policy, accountability, and long-term planning.
Efforts to sustain the organisation were further undermined by an inflexible landlord, whose priority has been to achieve vacant possession to maximise redevelopment value, rather than supporting continued cultural use of the site.
For nearly two decades, The Complex has been at the heart of Dublin’s creative scene, earning national and international recognition as a hub for contemporary arts. Over the years, it has supported hundreds of artists, freelancers, technicians, designers, and producers, while providing essential cultural infrastructure in a part of the city where access to the arts has long been scarce.
