On May 10th 1993, Belgian/Dutch Eurodance group 2 Unlimited released their No Limits! album, which topped multiple European charts and ultimately helped define the trajectory of Eurodance.
The album yielded five singles: No Limit, which hit number one in most European countries; Tribal Dance, a major hit across Europe and a UK Top 10 single; alongside Faces, Maximum Overdrive, and Let the Beat Control Your Body, all of which also charted across Europe.
Eurodance was still forming its global identity at this point in 1993. 2 Unlimited weren’t the originators of the genre, but they were key to its commercial establishment. The sound was already bubbling across Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy, but the arrival of No Limits! helped turn it into a more unified pop movement.
They were described in a Guinness World Records publication as “spectacular,” with the sound of “No Limit” being compared to “the sound giant dinosaurs might make stomping on cities.” The entry goes on to describe the choruses as “chant-worthy,” noting that the singles from the album “ravaged hearts and minds across the globe.” It concludes with the statement that they “linger forever in the hearts of true music lovers.”
