Fans are set to see changes at Ticketmaster after an investigation into inflated Oasis ticket prices, even as Live Nation insists concerts remain ‘underpriced’ despite costs soaring 32% in five years.

Following an extensive amount of criticism directed at Ticketmaster, their “platinum” seats for Oasis were listed at more than double the standard price, despite providing no additional benefits. The investigation has reignited debate about the ticketing giant’s practices and its hold on the live events market.

At the same time, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino is defending rising concert costs, arguing that tickets remain “underpriced” even as average prices have jumped 32% over the past five years. Rapino claims high demand and limited supply mean artists and venues could still be charging more.

The opposing narratives, one of overpriced ticket tiers, the other of “bargain” live music, highlight the growing friction between fans dissatisfied with rising pricing and an industry under pressure to maximise profits. With Ticketmaster now promising adjustments, the real question is whether anything will actually get cheaper, or if it’s just more empty promises. Meanwhile, fans keep paying more for the same show.
