Tresor.West will close at the end of 2026 after almost seven years in Dortmund, with the techno club set to host farewell events through December while seeking new operators to take over its Phönixplatz venue.

In a statement sent to Resident Advisor on October 8th, the club’s team confirmed that continuing in its current form is no longer financially viable. However, the space is intended to remain a cultural venue, with applications now open to event organisers, collectives and hospitality operators interested in developing its future. The deadline for applications is November 15th.

According to Tresor founder Dimitri Hegemann, falling attendance, increasing expenses and shifts in how people engage with nightlife have made it harder for the club to remain financially sustainable. He pointed to the growing appeal of summer festivals, and events centred on individual DJs and brands as challenges for venues relying on a consistent, year-round programme.

“This was always an experiment, and it has left something lasting: a remarkable space and a community that knows what it stands for. Unfortunately, continuing in the current form is no longer feasible.”

The announcement also marks a significant milestone for a project that was meant to translate the legacy of Berlin’s Tresor into a different local context. Throughout the years, Tresor.West developed its own identity within Dortmund, welcoming artists from all over the electronic music spectrum and building a community around its approach to club culture.

Upcoming bookings include Alienata, Phase Fatale and Truncate, which will go ahead as planned. The closure applies to Tresor.West in Dortmund; Tresor in Berlin will continue operating as normal.

For now, the focus is on celebrating what the venue has built while finding a way for its physical space to continue serving the city’s cultural scene.
