Trinity College’s DJ Society [DUDJ] is building a full-scale hi-fi sound system from scratch. From initial concept to final output, this ambitious project is designed, engineered, and crafted entirely by students.
The team has already created their first basic design in SOLIDWORKS, laying out the foundation for what promises to be a powerful, custom-built rig. Upcoming stages include driver selection, custom crossover design, and innovative acoustic research.
The goal is to have the sound system ready by mid-April for the college’s landmark Trinity-Ball, giving the team just a few months to turn digital designs into a real, working system capable of powering one of the biggest nights on campus.
The team is looking for students to help with the woodworking side of the project. No prior experience is required, just enthusiasm, creativity, and a willingness to get hands-on with the design and fabrication. Building the speaker cabinets involves careful construction and attention to detail, and it’s a chance to contribute to a system the whole college will experience.
If you want to get involved, you can email digiarts@csc.tcd.ie with a project or two and a short note on why you’d be a great fit.
