Body & Soul will commission a special film, Ériu, that is available to view on RTÉ Player from tonight. Body & Soul have carefully curated collection of visual stories, Ériu has been created in collaboration with some of Ireland’s most celebrated and unique artists and filmmakers, set against the backdrop of its festival home in Ballinlough, Co. Westmeath.

The film was created and performed by a diverse selection of artists working across music, visual arts, electronic arts, landscape and lighting art, costume, opera, spoken-word, poetry and dance.

the Ériu film features Æ MAK; Aoife Dunne; Felix PowerJohn Francis Flynn & Brendan JenkinsonEmma Nash featuring God Knows & MurliMaïa Nunes & David PowerCrash Ensemble & Lisa O’NeillPeter Broderick; Alltar featuring Súil Amháin; Tomike & 1000 Beasts; CuRod, Edwina Guckian & John CartyOverhead, The Albatross & Robyn Byrne; and Light Sculptors & New Jackson (aka Mick Murray & David Kitt).

The film explores themes of liminality, the quality of ambiguity or disorientation that occurs in the middle stage of a rite of passage. Ériu’s commissioned artists were invited to consider the potential for a new way of seeing things, to create with a posture of curiosity, playfulness and experimentation.

“Ériu is inspired by and rooted in Body & Soul’s spiritual home, Ballinlough. A response to these strange and liminal times, Ériu is an entirely collaborative project and could only have been made at a particular moment, while our live wings were clipped. We worked experimentally with some of Ireland’s most interesting artists in creating this film, which is filled with anticipation for the future and the power of the creative process during challenging times. Each visual story has its own particular flavour so as a whole, we hope the film reflects the journey and unexpected nature of a Body & Soul festival experience. It’s a wonderful opportunity to now expand the audiences for Ériu through its launch on RTÉ Player and we are now delighted to be able to present many of the collaborations as live productions at our festival, which returns this summer.”Body & Soul Founder and Director Avril Stanley.

Body & Soul presents Ériu is available to watch for free on RTÉ Player from Monday 11 April.
